What is the Motability Scheme?

The Motability Scheme, operating as the Motability Foundation, is a registered national charity founded in 1977 to help people with disabilities stay mobile. The first Motability vehicles went on the market in 1978.

The Motability Scheme is run by Motability, which allows eligible people to lease a car, powered wheelchair, or mobility scooter. The vehicle is paid for with your government-funded mobility allowance.

Motability is the leading vehicle scheme for people with disabilities. The charity supports over 890,000 customers. The Motability scheme launched in 1978 and vehicles are provided by exchanging a mobility allowance.

To be eligible for Motability, you need to be receiving one of the Government-funded mobility allowances below:

The War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS) or,
The Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP).
