Jaguar I-Pace wins 2019 European Car of the Year
Added: 05 April 2019
Despite strong competition, most notably from the Alpine A110, the Jaguar I-Pace scooped the prestigious award earlier this month to further underline its position as one of the greatest feats of engineering in the field of electric technology.
It’s the first time the British manufacturer has won this trophy and signals a major milestone on its eco-friendly driving journey as it sprints towards an exciting new chapter.
The I-Pace Officially the Best Car of 2019!
The I-Pace won the award by the narrowest of margins. While the Ford Focus (235 points) and Kia Ceed (247 points) weren’t far behind, both the Jaguar model and Alpine’s A110 received 250 points during the panel’s voting process. However, the I-PACE landed the accolade as a result of being voted no.1 on a greater number of lists.
Jaguar’s Director of Design, Ian Callum accepted the award at the Geneva Motor Show from Car of the Year President Frank Janssen while the manufacturer’s CEO Ralf Speth declared the team’s pride at scooping the prestigious award for the first time with its first ever all-electric vehicle. While far from being a shock result, it is a major moment for the company and electric technology in general.
The premium electric crossover is a worthy winner too. The all-electric beast has revolutionised the approach to the tech, bringing luxury and style to the table like never before. Unlike many electric cars before it, the I-PACE is a real driver’s car while the Touch Pro Duo infotainment and spacious interiors are just two items that underline the vehicle’s beauty. It’s safe, comfortable, stylish, and fun. Eco-friendly driving has never been better.
A 90kWH battery uses state-of-the-art thermal management systems while the 512 pound-feet of torque (394 bhp) allows the EV to accelerate from 60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds. When combined with the comfortable driving lines and advanced tech across all aspects, it truly is a stunning vehicle that raises the bar of possibilities and establishes Jaguar as the pinnacle of electric technology.
Jaguar are already plotting their next moves as they plan to build upon the success of this award, and it might not be long before the i-Pace, which can cover 292 miles from one charge, is joined by others. This is further supported by a range of already successful hybrid vehicles that make this transitional era of motoring an extremely exciting time for the manufacturer. The I-Pace isn’t merely an eco-friendly and ultra-modern car, it is now a piece of motoring history.
The Jaguar I-Pace could soon follow up this accolade by being named as the World Car of the Year at the WCAs, which take place on April 19th at the New York International Auto Show, having been announced as part of the three-car shortlist in Geneva too.
