Introducing the Jaguar F-Type SVR
Added: 24 July 2018
The Jaguar F-Type SVR is the latest product to come out of Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations division, which they say is about taking the fundamental parts of a Jaguar and magnifying them to be even better.
Well with the Jaguar F-Type SVR they have done just that. They have stripped off some weight, increased its performance so it’s faster and overall a more agile version of the Jaguar F-Type R – which makes it the fastest F-Type to date with a top speed of 200mph.
Jaguar F-Type SVR: Engine, Transmission and Performance
The same 5-litre supercharged V8 is carried over from the existing F-Type line-up, however the SVR version has been fine tweaked to output an additional 25bhp and 15lb ft of torque taking figures to 567bhp and 516lb ft.
The eight-speed automatic transmission has also been carried over to the SVR but its software has been finely tuned by the Special Vehicle Operations to give it a more responsive and racier feel.
The all-wheel drive system powers marginally more torque to the rear wheels than the standard F-Type which is said to improve its launch and 0-60mph time. The 3.5 second 0-60mph time that has been quoted by Jaguar is the same as the F-Type R AWD so we can expect the SVR to better Jaguar’s initial claims.
Jaguar F-Type SVR: Technical Enhancements
Jaguar have taken the chassis and revised it with different dampers and a set of anti-roll bars, with the overall stiffness unchanged and more of the focus shifted towards the rear of the car.
Elsewhere on the car the tyres are wider and the 20-inch wheels have been reduced in weight as well as the roof panel which is lightweight carbon fibre – although that is available as an option in the aero package which also includes an active rear wing, rear venture, a front splitter and a flat underfloor.
The exhaust system is titanium and inconel which cuts 16kg and gives the Jaguar F-Type SVR a ‘harder-edged’ sound – which is extremely satisfying considering the sound of the standard F-Type is already brutal.
Jaguar F-Type SVR: How much does it cost?
The Jaguar F-Type SVR will set you back a cool £110,000 which is an additional £18,000 premium over the F-Type R AWD. The convertible model is slightly more expensive at £115,485 which is also £18,000 more than the F-Type R AWD convertible.
When you consider the price of its rivals, the F-Type SVR’s value is certainly a strong point, especially when you consider the amount of extra tuning and parts you are getting for an additional £18,000.
